Active Ingredient: MINOXIDIL

QTc Interval Status:
shortening

Clinical Description (Database Summary)

Minoxidil acts as an activator of ATP-sensitive potassium channels (IK-ATP). In human induced pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes with Long QT Syndrome type 2 (LQTS2), minoxidil significantly shortens action potential duration (APD90) by up to 17% at 1000 nM and 13% at 10 nM. It does not prolong the QTc interval, but rather promotes cardiac repolarization through enhanced potassium efflux. Another study on 80 human with severe hypertension found that initiation of minoxidil therapy is associated with transient ECG changes (T-wave flattening or inversion in up to 90% of patients) that are non-ischemic and resolve during long-term therapy
