Active Ingredient: METHADONE
Methadone is a synthetic opioid used in maintenance therapy and analgesia that causes cardiac repolarization delay and carries a recognized risk of QTc prolongation and Torsades de Pointes. In a cross-sectional study of 180 patients on methadone maintenance therapy (mean dose 80.4 mg daily), QTc prolongation was documented in 8.8% to 11.1% of patients even at trough levels, without a linear dose-response relationship. Concomitant cocaine detection was not significantly associated with QTc lengthening. Systematic baseline and trough ECG monitoring is recommended
